Breeze compared
Breeze and LocalSend
Breeze and LocalSend speak the same protocol, but they are different kinds of app. LocalSend is a free, open-source transfer tool that covers many platforms with one Flutter app. Breeze is a native app for each platform, and it goes past transfer: Vaults keep files, bookmarks, and snippets in sync between your devices, and what arrives can be read inside the app.
The friendly part: because the wire protocol is shared, a Breeze device and a LocalSend device see each other and trade files with nothing to configure. Installing either app grows the same network.
When LocalSend is the better choice
- You want a graphical app on Linux. Breeze only has the breeze CLI there, and it is send-only.
- You want fully open-source software, or you install from F-Droid.
- You want every feature free, with no paid tier at all.
When Breeze is the better choice
- You want an app that feels native on each platform it runs on.
- You want files, links, and snippets synced across your devices, not just sent once.
- You share with the same devices daily and want them trusted, named, and pinned.
- You care how the thing you use every day looks and feels.
You do not have to choose sides. The protocol is shared, so a room with both apps works with nothing to set up. Pick the app you enjoy using.
LocalSend is a separate open-source project by Tien Do Nam and contributors, licensed under Apache 2.0. Breeze is a from-scratch implementation of the openly published protocol, not a fork.
We are grateful to the LocalSend team for keeping the protocol open. Interop grows the network for everyone.
