Frequently asked questions
The basics
Who makes Breeze?
Breeze is built by one person. I develop Simply Fluent, a cross-platform language learning app, and Breeze started because I needed a simpler way to move files between all my test devices. It's built on the open LocalSend protocol with native apps for each platform. Read the full story on the About Breeze.
What is Breeze?
Breeze sends anything to any device in the room, yours or anyone's. Files move directly over your local network, and Vaults keep files in sync between the devices you invite. No cloud, no accounts, no upload step.
Which platforms does it support?
iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android, and Windows, all in beta. There is also a small terminal client for Linux and macOS.
Is there a Windows app?
Yes, in beta like the other apps. It sends, receives, and sits in the tray so it can receive while the window is closed. It also has Vaults and their sync, the Breeze window with the Inbox and the in-app viewers, usage stats, theme drops, and the MCP server for AI agents. What it cannot do yet is show or scan a QR code, wake a device over Bluetooth, or receive from Quick Share. Sign up for the beta on the home page to get it.
Is there a Linux app?
There is a terminal app, not a graphical one. breeze is a small command-line client for Linux and macOS. It sends files and text to any device running Breeze or LocalSend. It cannot receive yet.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. Breeze only needs the devices to be on the same local network. Wi-Fi or a hotspot is enough. The internet is not involved in the transfer.
Is there a file size limit?
No. Transfers run at full local network speed. The only limit is free space on the receiving device.
What are Vaults?
A Vault is a collection of files, links, or snippets kept on your device. Bookmarks and Snippets are built in, so a link or text you paste into Breeze is filed by type. With Pro, a Vault syncs between the devices you invite, yours or someone else's, over your own network. Nothing is uploaded anywhere. Vaults are on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android, and Windows.
What is the Breeze Inbox?
Everything you receive lands in the Inbox first. Files stay there until you deal with them. Nothing expires and nothing is cleared behind your back. Open a file, forward it on, save it into a Vault, or leave it where it is.
Can my devices receive files while Breeze is closed?
Mac and Windows can. They sit in the menu bar or the tray and take files with no window open. iPhone and Android cannot yet. Breeze has to be open on screen.
Can an AI agent use Breeze?
Yes, on Mac and Windows. Breeze runs a Model Context Protocol server on your machine, off until you turn it on in Settings. Once it is on, an agent can list your devices, send files to any of them, and browse, read and add to your Vaults. It is free, not a Pro feature. The server listens on localhost only and needs a token, so nothing off the machine can reach it. Every tool is set to allow, ask, or off, one by one, and a call you have not allowed stops and waits for you to answer. Sending ships set to ask, so the first time an agent reaches for another device you get a card. Agents can never delete anything. The most an agent can do is put a deletion request in front of you, and that request sits there until you look at it.
Discovery & trust
How do devices find each other?
Each Breeze device sends a small announcement over your local network. Other Breeze (and LocalSendLocalSend is a popular open-source file sharing app. Breeze speaks the same protocol, so both apps see each other on the network.) devices on the same network listen for it and show you in their device list. No central server is involved. Devices you have met before are also checked directly at the address you last saw them, so they find their way back after you switch networks.
Can random strangers send me files?
No. Every incoming transfer shows a prompt on the receiving device. You explicitly accept or reject each one. You can also mark trusted devices to skip the prompt, or block devices you don't want to see again.
Is it compatible with LocalSend?
Yes. Breeze implements the LocalSend v2LocalSend is a popular open-source file sharing app. Breeze speaks the same protocol, so both apps see each other on the network. protocol, so you can send to and receive from any LocalSend device.
Privacy & security
Do my files go through a server?
No. Files go directly from device to device over your local network. Breeze operators never see or store your files.
Are transfers encrypted?
Yes. Every transfer is encrypted between the two devices. Each device generates its own security certificate, so no one else can read what's sent. Not even Breeze. The encryption uses TLS 1.3, the same standard that protects online banking.
Do I need an account?
No. There is nothing to sign up for.
What do you know about me if I buy Pro?
Nothing you type into Breeze. In the App Store and Google Play, the store handles the payment, so we never see your name, email, or card. To check that a purchase is valid, our purchase service RevenueCat stores the receipt under a random ID your device creates. On breezeit.app, the checkout asks for your email and card, and Stripe processes the payment. None of this is used for advertising, and none of it touches the files you send.
Pricing
Is Breeze free?
Yes. Breeze is free to install and use on every platform, with no limit on devices or file size. Breeze Pro is an optional upgrade at €14.99 a year, and its main feature is Vault sync. During the beta, everyone has Pro.
Does Pro work across my devices?
Yes. One purchase covers six devices, whatever the mix of iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android, and Windows. Buy on one device, and the rest claim their place when you link them. Family covers twelve.
What's the difference between Free and Pro?
Free covers sending and receiving on every platform: any number of devices, any file size, at local network speed. It also includes Vaults on each device, the Breeze Inbox, browser access, Quick Share and LocalSend compatibility, and every theme. Pro adds Vault sync between devices, sharing a Vault with another person, auto-accept from trusted devices, nicknames and pins for devices, and cropping, resizing, and converting pictures and videos on the computer. One purchase covers six devices on any platform. Family covers twelve.
How does the Family plan work?
It is the same Pro, with twelve seats instead of six. Anyone in the house can take one, on any platform. There is no shared account and no Apple Family Sharing. A device asks for a seat when it links to a device that already has Pro, over your local network. You approve it there and it is Pro. Nothing is emailed, and nothing is typed.
How do I restore my purchase after reinstalling?
Open Settings in Breeze and tap Restore purchases. On iPhone, iPad, and Mac this pulls your Universal Purchase from the Apple ID you bought with. On Android it re-queries your Google Play account. In most cases restore also runs automatically on first launch after install.
How do themes work?
Every theme is free. Twelve base colors ship with the app, drop themes are released over time and claimed through a link, and once you have a color you can gift it to someone else. Color is the part of Breeze we give away.
How do refunds work?
For the App Store and Google Play, refunds follow the store's rules, and only Apple or Google can issue them. A purchase on breezeit.app is sold through Link, from Stripe. You can cancel it within 14 days for a full refund by asking Link support.
Troubleshooting
My devices can't see each other.
Check that both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network (not a guest network, and not two different bands on some routers). On iOS, make sure Breeze has Local Network permission in Settings. If your router has client isolation switched on, which is common on travel routers and guest networks, devices can reach the internet but not each other. A Wi-Fi extender running in router mode splits a home into two networks, and Breeze crosses that on its own. A device on the main router can still find one behind the extender without being able to send to it, and Breeze says so on the device card before you try. Settings has a diagnostics screen that checks all of this and tells you what it found.
Why does my iPhone or Mac keep disappearing?
Apple devices use a Private Wi-Fi Address, and on the Rotating setting it changes every two weeks. When it changes, other devices keep looking for the old address and stop finding yours. Open your Wi-Fi settings, select the network, and set Private Wi-Fi Address to Fixed. The address stays private. It only stops changing.
A transfer stopped partway through.
This usually means one device went to sleep or left the network. Wake both devices, keep Breeze open, and try again.
I found a bug.
Send a bug report with the device model, OS version, and a short description of what happened. Crash reports are sent automatically. They carry no file names and no file contents.
